Dear Classmates and long-standing (long suffering?) friends,
Well, it's almost summer, and we've come up with two mini-reunions you may well want to attend:
1.  Clarine Chipman-Green is holding a mini-reunion on July 11 at Enumclas, WA, at her large place, with a good view of Mount Ranier, one of the most beautiful mountains you will ever see.  She plans to come up with a baked salmon (MMMM), and knowing Clarine, the mini-reunion will be well-organized.  Clarine notes that there are a lot of interesting things to do in Washington, including ferry trips for whale watching, sight-seeing on the sound, hiking up mountains, shopping, glass blowing, and the Tacoma Art museum.  She also points out that there is plenty of room in her circle drive for motor homes, etc.  Sounds great!  You can contact Clarine at 360-826-3362, or email her at chipmcl@gmail.com

2.  I, with some essential assistance from Anna Streeter Koch, have been putting a mini-reunion together for northern Wyoming in the historic Buffalo-Kaycee-Sheridan area, which will include both our class members and the Black Hills Prospecting Club, along with friends.  You are doubtless familiar with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang, who terrorized banks and trains in this area in the 1890's and early 1900's.  You may not be so familiar with the Johnson County War of 1892 when big cattle barons imported 50 hired gunmen from Texas to drive the settlers out of the country.  They killed two or three settlers, then the settlers holed them up at the T-A Ranch barn and closely besieged them until the gunmen were rescued by the US Cavalry, no less.  There are still hard feelings about it locally.

We are going to visit:
1.  The beautiful Hole-in-the-Wall - an amazing 500-foot-high sandstone wall, 30 miles long, with a narrow trail winding up it.  This is the actual Hole-in-the-Wall, where the gang would climb after robbing a train or bank.  They would leave a gunman at the wall's top with a .30-30 rifle to hold off the posses chasing them.  The posses would look at an impossible situation and go home!  This is in the middle of an 83-section private ranch.  This is doubtless the opportunity of a lifetime - something you will never be able to repeat!
2.  The T-A Ranch, where the Johnson County War hired gunmen were besieged by the settlers until the gunmen were rescued by the US Cavalry.  The huge old bar is still standing, complete with bullet holes from the siege!  It's all in the middle of a beautiful guest ranch.
And that ain't all!  We're also visiting the ancient 800-year-old Indian Medicine Wheel up in the beautiful bighorn Mountains.

HERE'S THE ITINERARY:
SATURDAY, June 5:
10 am:  BRUNCH at Pistol Pete's in Buffalo, Wyoming.
Afternoon - the Hole-in-the-Wall.  This is for 4-wheel-drive vehicles only, so if you don't have one, we'll get you a ride with someone.  It is miles out in the middle of nowhere.  TAKE A CAMERA, as there's plenty to see, including llamas guarding sheep flocks and an old robbers' cabin; and the scenery throughout is marvelous.  Also, take your cowboy hat (and if possible an Old West rifle - EMPTY!) as you will want to get photos of yourself and everyone else "holdin' off" the posse at the Hole-in-the-Wall.
Evening - Dinner at The Virginian, a FAMOUS Old Western restaurant in Buffalo.  The menu looks OUTSTANDING, with such things as great beef or BUFFALO steaks.  And there will be a salad bar for the "veggies" among us.

OVERNIGHT STAYS.  You are on your own for lodging!

8 am  Breakfast at Pistol Pete's
Trip to the T  A Ranch.  Includes 30-45 minute talk about the Johnson County War for a nominal fee.  LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED (Veggies can get your sack lunches in town - Anna Streeter Koch can help you).  It includes beef or turkey sandwich, chips and cookie; and will cost $6.  We must provide our own drinks.
Afternoon:  Trip to the Bighorn Mountains - Indian Medicine Wheel.  Bring warm clothing!

Both trips offer once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to see major parts of our Western heritage.  I am personally so excited that I am bringing both my son and my special lady friend, Gaynell.  If you have questions, call me at 605-717-1512, or email me at Tashonka@msn.com.
Please let either Clarine or me know if you plan to attend!  For the Wyoming trip I must know no later than May 9, so I can inform the responsible parties how many are planning to attend.
